We all come across moments in our life when we have to make important decisions that could impact our life and relationships.
Some of those decisions could be when you are at cross roads and you have two or more options in front of you. Like when you have two job offers in front of you and you are finding it difficult to decide which one is best for you.
And some of those decisions are quick ones where you decide to act in a certain way. Like when you have had it with your boss and you decide to put in your papers and resign. Or when a family member has upset you and you decide to get on the phone and give them a piece of your mind.
Here is what you should do before you make any decision.
You need to get to a place where you are feeling calm, settled and happy before you make any decision at all.
Here is why
When you are calm and happy, you can hear your guidance within. You can tune into your intuition or that gut feeling that guides you towards what's best for you.
When you get to a happy place before picking up that phone and blasting off a loved one, your perspective of the situation that was causing you to feel hurt, upset or angry changes. With your new changed perspective, your decision to pick up that phone might change. You might decide to let it go or decide to talk but with grace and compassion. Either way your decision will serve you well.
When you get calm and happy, you will be a match to solutions that were not known to you previously. This information will help you make a better decision.
When you are calm and centered, you will not make decisions based on fear, doubt or what could go wrong.
This also works when you want to grab that piece of cake. Get happy first then ask yourself do you really need to have that cake. If the answer is yes - go for it and savor and enjoy it. If the answer is no, you will find it easier to honor that if you are already in a calm, happy place.
How to get calm, centered and happy on a short notice.
Take a deep breath and focus on your breath: the inhale and the exhale.
Now ground yourself in the now and focus on whats good about the present moment.
Then make a quick note on what you are grateful for in your life.
If you can, remember a time in your life when you felt really happy and joyful.
If its possible take a nap - going to sleep resets your body and emotions and when you wake up you will feel better.
Note - Getting happy doesn't always look like the stereotype all smiles, jumping with joy kind of happiness. It could feel like something warm and fuzzy in your heart. It could feel like stillness and calm in your heart. It could feel like emotional and a overflowing of love from your heart.
Don't try to judge your happiness. Just accept and acknowledge that you are feeling better.
