Essential skill no 3 - Know your purpose

If you have been reading my blog, you must have read the No 1 most essential skill to create the life you desire is loving yourself and the No 2 essential skill is learning to activate happiness.

Today I want to share with you the third essential skill that will set you on the path of a happy fulfilled life.

I am talking about knowing your Purpose, to really live life in flow. To feel excited about waking up everyday because you will be contributing towards that purpose.

The objective is to live life not in a functional way, where you go to work or look after your family, take care of your kids, exercise , socialize a bit - All because you have to and then repeat that the next day and everyday.

Its about living life purposefully, being aware of what contributes to your joy and really pursuing that.

From my own personal experience, finding my purpose really filled me with joy. Over the last few years I have learned a fair bit about how to know what your purpose is and what it means to live a life contributing to your purpose and how that feels.

Here is what I would like to share with you about "Your purpose"

To know your purpose ask yourself these questions

  • What have I done in the past or do in the present that makes me happy ?

  • What activity in my daily life makes me lose track of time?

  • What is my unique gift that I am good at ?

  • Can I use my unique gift no matter what it is to be of service to other people ?

Your purpose could change as you evolve - What my purpose was 10 years ago is very different to what it is now. And that's ok. It might change in the future too. My intention is to be in tune with my purpose and live it each day.

Don't judge - When you ask these questions to yourself and tune in to the answer, remember to not judge what comes up. Your heart knows what your highest joy is. Trust what comes up. It could be something that you might not have thought of as " Your purpose". It could be something that you might judge as too simple or too common or not important. But try not to judge. Try not to expect the answer to be fitting the requirements of modern society , that it should make you earn money, that it should be something that can be measured and tracked.

Sometimes the answer you get, could be that you love raising your kids and being in service to your family

Or it could be in the form of what you do to pass your time like I have a friend who loves to research on the internet and can lose track of time when she does that. She feels great joy in going deeper and deeper into the world of the internet to learn more about whatever catches her fancy.

Now that could be her purpose. Infact that very gift could be of great value to other people who don't have the time to do that kind of in depth research themselves.

The point being when you accept that what you love doing can become your purpose then you allow the universe to line up opportunities or ideas that will help you contribute towards your purpose.

"The purpose of our lives is to be happy" said Dalai Lama - So filling your life doing and contributing to something that fills your heart and that you are purposeful about will help you feel more joy day to day. Being in service to others will fill the empty restlessness that you might feel when you don't know where you are heading.

State of flow - Once you figure out what your purpose is and decide to live it, you will not only feel fantastic and be filled with joy but you will receive guidance from your inner being on what should be your next step towards contributing to that purpose. Resources, opportunities and people will just line up because you will be in a state of flow. All you have to do is show up every single day to contribute to your purpose, to share your unique gift with people who could benefit from it. I have seen that happen first hand personally in my life and with the people I have worked with.

After my babies became a bit older and I was searching for my purpose, I asked myself the very same questions.

And what came up for me was that I am extremely passionate about the Law Of Attraction. I would talk about it to everyone and anyone who was interested in listening to me.

I have used it to create the life I want and I have raised my kids using energy and alignment. It gave me great joy to help my husband, friends and other family members align to their highest self and manifest whatever they wanted.

Once I accepted that this was my unique gift and I could be of service to other people by sharing my gift with them, I was in a state of flow.

I know that because what followed was nothing short of a series of miracles that continue to appear in my life that make it really easy for me to contribute towards my purpose, whether it was creating a website on my own and finding it easy to do it, whether it was opportunities that came that helped me grow my coaching practice or whether it was clients showing up happy to work with me.

I know I created all this because of my alignment to my highest joy which is to teach, guide and coach one person at a time to get happy in the present and attract the life that they desire.

And when you are on purpose "You can never get it wrong and you can never get it done" like Abe says.

And I am eager to learn and share more.

Another example of that is, I have a client who is passionate about being a leader and influencing and guiding people to work towards a common goal. That was his purpose.

While in the present he did not get to contribute much towards this purpose, just getting clear on it and then aligning to it, brought him an opportunity where his role involved exactly what he was passionate about. Now he gets to go to work every day, lead and influence and contribute towards his purpose thereby feel a lot of joy in his life. Each day at work he comes across the right people, the right teams and the right support to help him be a better leader. He is in a "state of flow"

( I have his permission to share this)

I encourage you to ask these questions and get clear on your purpose. It will greatly improve the quality of your life.
